Commune de Lessay

There is a host of tiny hamlets around Lessay, as everywhere in the Bocage Normand, each with its Château, Manoir or Mesnil.
Bricquebost and Pissot are typical examples. Note, at Bricquebost, the enormous Pigeonnier. Noblemen alone were allowed to keep pigeons – a form of taxation, since they feed on other men's corn. At the Revolution, the pigeons were the first victims of resentful peasantry.
