Carentan
After D-Day, Carentan was the 'hinge' between the two US invasion beaches, Omaha and Utah. Nevertheless, it managed to conserve a number of handsome old buildings. Popular with yachtsmen, Carentan is approached from the sea by a canal; the main N13 motorway dives spectacularly underneath the canal just outside the town.
