Aubeterre-sur-Dronne

Another of those occasions when I had a commission to photograph a specific place, and it rained.
But it's amazing what you can do with a polarising filter. Aubeterre is gorgeous, packed with fascinating
corners, crowned by a mellow castle and with the bonus of two churches, one Romanesque and the
other monolithic – carved out of the hillside as an enlargement of a natural cave.

Chassenon

Cassinomagus was a Roman hilltop garrison town at an important crossroads.
The baths were discovered in 1958, and are still in course of excavation.

Confolens

... means confluence, of course; here the Goire runs into the Vienne.
The old bridge is the most important site, dating from the 13th century.
