Fort Louvois was built by Vauban – one of his cuter efforts – to guard the strait between the Ile d'Oléron and the mainland, now crossed by a spectacular bridge.

The church here was built in the 12th century and restored in 1889. The façade is typical of its region, the Saintonge.
