What the French author does not mention is that the French surrender in 1940 was taken in the same place, and that later in the war the railway carriage in which all the signing was done was destroyed by bombing. However, the furnishings of the carriage had been removed to a safe place before the Germans got there, and after the war were replaced here in a similar carriage.
