Domme
Domme sits on a remarkably steep hill overlooking the Dordogne. Unusually, it is a bastide (founded in 1281) which retains most of its defensive walls and no less than three gates. One can also visit the caves in which the inhabitants used to shelter in times of trouble.

Domme is also quite amazingly beautiful, with stunning views in every direction. Note: if you are driving, don't expect to see the views until you get out of the car at the top. The road up the hill requires far too much concentration.
