Gorges du Tarn
The river Tarn has cut deep into the limestone plateau between Millau and Quézac, forming Europe's deepest gorge. Places like this are often difficult of access, with cliffs dropping sheer into the water; but in the 19th century a railway was run through the gorge, and this has been converted to a spectacular if slightly hair-raising road. Walkers and watersports enthusiasts flock here in the summer, and you can hire a canoe to go downstream, which will be returned for you when you're done. Little motorboats do the trip, too. There are also amazing views from the Causses – the high ground of the plateau.
