Vitré
The town has kept its medieval centre, with whole streets dating from the
fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
The houses seem to be built of a lighter stone than the castle. The castle itself was built, of course,
to keep
back invading Normans. It is triangular, one of the sides being made
up by a Town Hall built
since the war and perfectly in keeping with
the rest of the building. The stone is Breton granite,
yellowed by
centuries of lichen.
